Jefferson College will provide information on the community resources available to help individuals deal with drug and alcohol-related problems. In addition, the College will provide members of the college community with information on drug abuse, alcohol and education information and will review its drug and substance abuse policies and prevention efforts every two years. Violations of this directive by students must be referred to the Vice-President of Student Services or any other competent college official in order to initiate disciplinary and/or judicial action. Disciplinary measures in higher education institutions may be accompanied by the requirement for satisfactory participation in a drug abuse assistance or rehabilitation program as a precondition for future university participation. Jefferson College prohibits the illicit possession, use or distribution of drugs and alcohol by students and employees on its property or as part of its institutional activities. Health risks associated with illicit drug use and substance abuse range from temporary disorientation to permanent loss of organs or death.
The college will impose sanctions on students and staff until the university is excluded or terminated and sent to court for breach of the college`s standards of conduct. Legal penalties under local, state and federal laws for illegal possession, use or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol abuse extend to seven (7) years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine for a Class A Felony.
